Research Process
As I joined Tuitui after the team had completed the initial user research, I will briefly introduce the research methods and key findings in order to provide context and enhance storytelling.
Why job seekers might not request job referrals ?
Questionnaires
The team obtained survey results from job seekers, all of whom are Chinese and located in North America. Most of them are currently students or new graduates aged between 21 and 28 years old.

Dive into the job-seeking and job-referral process.
Interviews
Then the team holds 5 interviews with seasoned professionals who have experience in referring candidates and 5 job seekers who have experience of seeking job referrals on online platforms.
Existing employees
“Sometimes there are just too many chats and emails. It’s difficult to manage the resume screening process and give feedback.”
Job seeker
It took me a while to realize that someone actually couldn't pass my resume along to the HR and help me with the referral..
Key Findings

Information Architecture
As a C2C app, we include features for company employees to publish internal referrals and manage applications, but our main users are still job seekers. Therefore, the entire user flow revolves around registration, browsing, searching, applying, and communicating for job seekers.
Wireframe
After creating the wireframe, we conducted some simple user testing to explore whether the features matched user needs. Based on user feedback, we added functions such as search filtering.
Design System
Firstly, we need to determine the main color scheme. We chose green because it gives people a sense of professionalism, calmness, warmth, and hope. Before building the design system, I had a meeting with the engineering team and learned that they habitually use a library called Nativebase. Therefore, my design system is built mainly on that library.
Hi-Fi Prototype
After creating the hi-fi prototype, we conducted 25 user tests with it. Because our process design is very concise and intuitive, 95% of users successfully completed all tasks
One-Step Referral Request
Streamline the job search and referral request process without back-and-forth communication.
An efficient Information exchange system
Enables job seekers to display their personal information and resume. Employees can easily review and share information with HR through a seamless interface.
Promote Interaction
A social network platform enables users to engage in networking by offering connecting features and adjustable privacy settings..
Referral Management Dashboard
Allows job seekers and existing employees to view, accept, and manage referral requests with in-app notifications informing the process.
Post Launch
Introduction
Due to the fact that the company itself operates a community for students and job seekers, we gained 500 new users within a week of the app's release. We invited them to provide feedback and conducted specific interviews based on their behavior. We then improved the following three functions according to their answers.
Enhance user social inclination
Improvement 1
Showcase
Due to the fact that the majority of users did not actively add friends, the friend list remained empty. Therefore, we use the form of "recommended for you" to make other users appear on the friend page, thus increasing users' desire to interact with each other.
Simplify the sign-up process
Improvement 2
Sign-up
Users are more inclined to gradually fill in all the information under the guidance of a progress bar, rather than filling out a whole form on one page. Therefore, we split the entire form so that each page only has one input field.
Innovate the anonymous feature
Improvement 3
Anonymous
After our investigation, we found that the main concern of employees for not posting internal referrals on public platforms is privacy. Although we hope this platform is mainly based on credible and authentic social networking, to meet the needs of our users, we have added an anonymous feature to ensure privacy.
Next Step
We are currently facing two common problems. The first is that users lack social needs, and the second is that only a few employees are willing to provide referrals, but this involves operational issues that cannot be solved purely by UXUI. Next, we need to consider whether the current mechanism can cope with the increase of various resources in the future. For example, a company employee may receive one or two hundred applications on a certain day, and it is necessary to explore how to browse, sort, mark, save, and share them. These processes require further exploration.
